Hello hello, out there! Welcome to today's stop on the Throne of Glass Blog Tour! I'm very happy to have been invited and can't wait to share today's content with you. You may recall that I read and absolutely, positively adored Throne of Glass a few weeks ago (see my review HERE). I was fortunate to have the opportunity of interviewing Sarah J. Maas, which was a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy learning more about Sarah and her amazing book. If you haven't read it yet, just trust me. You've got to!
Marla: Hello, Sarah, and welcome to Starting the Next Chapter. Thanks for stopping by today!
What is something you feel your readers would be surprised to learn about you?
Sarah: First of all, thank YOU so much for having me! I’m so thrilled to be here! As for your question… Hmmm. I feel like they’d be surprised to know that I spend most of my days in yoga pants, old t-shirts, and sweatshirts (or maybe that’s not that surprising). I’m a pretty laid-back person, and I’m just as happy going out as I am staying in, ordering a pizza, and marathoning a great TV show.
Marla: I'm glad you could stop by! There's nothing better than vegging with your favorite TV shows and a pizza.
How would you describe Throne of Glass via tweet?
Sarah: An infamous young assassin must battle her way to freedom in a corrupt kingdom where magic has been outlawed. Dark, magical, and epic.
Marla: What were your major sources of inspiration while writing Throne of Glass?
Sarah: Agh. Everything. Seriously, EVERYTHING. The original idea came from a piece of music, and music has remained my chief source of inspiration since then. But movies, TV shows, art, history, fairytales and folklore, my own life—all of them played such a major role in the creation of this saga.
Marla: What is your favorite aspect of your heroine, Celaena?
Sarah: Her loyalty. She might be arrogant, and might have a horrible temper, but she is fiercely, unquestionably loyal to the people she loves. And I love that she never apologizes for who she is (even if it gets her in trouble).
Marla: It must be said: Cain is an evil horse's ass. How would you handle such a person if faced with one?
Sarah: LOL! What a great question. Honestly? Like Celaena, I can be a bit of a smart-ass.. So I’d probably try to cut him down to size with some good old-fashioned snark/sarcasm/taunting …And then I’d probably get my teeth punched down my throat as a result (since I certainly don’t have Celaena’s reflexes/skills to evade that kind of attack). ;)
Marla: LOL! Thank you, Sarah!

About the Book
After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin. Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for three years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilirating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best. Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
