Author Event - Amy Plum, Myra McEntire, & CJ Redwine, Plus a Giveaway!

Monday, May 14th shall be forever known as the day that a load of TN book bloggers took over the Green Hills Panera Bread and Parnassus Books.

from the Parnassus website

Myself, Nikki from Books Most Wanted, Hannah from The Book Vortex, Shalena from Writer Quirk, Megan from Myth-illogical, and Lauren from The Housework Can Wait met up 2 hours before the main event was to start for some good food and conversation.  Fun was had by all as we regaled each other with off-the-wall stories and shared some laughs.  The fun was only just beginning, however, as it was soon time to head to Parnassus Books to meet Amy Plum, Myra McEntire, and CJ Redwine.

The event kicked off with a quick introduction from Amy Plum and Myra McEntire as they caught us all up to speed on themselves and their books.

Then, it was time to settle in for some serious book talk.

We also got to hear a little bit from Until I Die and Timepiece.

Next up, it was Q&A time.  Let me tell you, both of these ladies were very inspiring.  I felt so much better about my own writing after they told us about their writing journeys.  One of my favorite tips from Myra in regards to the critiquing process: "Don't be a nut bag."  Wiser words were never spoken, my friends.

Last, but not least, it was time to meet the authors face-to-face, get our books signed, and snap some pics.

This was my first time officially meeting CJ Redwine (I think she was at Ash 2 Nash, but I didn't meet her that day) and I have to say, I am even more excited to read Defiance (if that's even possible).  It was also rather heartening to learn that I am not the only one prone to strange accidents involving meals or social situations.

Me with CJ Redwine
Though it was my 3rd time meeting Myra, it was a pleasure, as always.  This woman is utterly hilarious!  I hope you all will stay tuned, as there is something in the works for next month involving a certain Dr. Who fan we all know.

I was very excited to meet Amy Plum for the first time.  She was one of the first authors to contact me via Twitter when I was still just starting out as a YA blogger, which I still remember very fondly.  She was so nice and very easy to talk to.

As always seems to be the case when various members of our group get together, we managed to be amongst the last to leave the store.  We all had a wonderful time getting to know each other better, as well as meeting some truly wonderful authors.

As an added bonus, I have a little souvenir for one lucky US blog reader!  Amy Plum was kind enough to provide 2 signed bookmarks for a blog giveaway, meaning 1 of you will win a signed Die for Me bookmark and a signed Until I Die bookmark. It's my little way of sharing the book signing awesomeness.

Good luck to all those who enter!

Reminder: This giveaway is open only to US entrants.  Please stay tuned for my next international giveaway, which should be available in a few weeks.

Author Event Recap - Rachel Hawkins at Parnassus Books

View of Parnassus from the storefront
March has been a fantastic month for author events!  I attended my second one on Wednesday, March 28.  This time, I got to meet Rachel Hawkins for the second time.  The signing took place at the lovely Parnassus Books in Nashville, TN.  It was my first time visiting Parnassus and, I must say, I was very impressed!  It had the feel of an old-fashioned library (including rolling ladders), yet with a whimsical feel thanks to the star light fixtures and the truly adorable children's section.  They had an awesome variety of YA titles.  I'm definitely going to go back for some retail therapy in the near future.

The table full o' Hex Hall glory!
I made the trek to Nashville with the awesome Heather of SupaGurl Books, who was a total blast to travel with.  After I introduced her to the wonder that is Sweet Sallie's (you're welcome, Heather), we stopped by Nikki's house to pick up her book for the signing, then hit the interstate.  We reached Parnassus with plenty of time to browse around and snag prime seats at the very front.  While we waited, we got to know the also awesome Shalena from Writer Quirk, as well as her friend, Megan (hey, girls!).  We didn't have to wait long until Rachel's arrival and, shortly thereafter, the start of the event.

Rachel sharing her stories from the road
Rachel was an absolute riot.  She regaled us with stories of her tour shenanigans with Ally Carter, including the infamous Philadelphia train incident.  We all had a great time listening to her stories and laughing ourselves silly.  There were no frowns at Parnassus, that's for sure!

The book signing portion was a lot of fun.  We got to chat with Rachel a little, get our books signed (with a grape-scented marker, nonetheless), as well as chat with Myra McEntire, who also attended the event.  I think it's safe to say that all of us bloggers enjoyed ourselves immensely judging by the chatter and laughter coming from our group.  We rounded out the event by standing around talking shop for at least an hour after Rachel and Myra left.  I'm definitely looking forward to May when we might all get to hang out at Parnassus again!

TN Author Event Alert!

Good news, Tennessee Hex Hall fans!  Rachel Hawkins announced her upcoming tour schedule for Spell Bound on her blog this morning.  There just so happens to be a stop at Nashville's new indie bookstore, Parnassus Books!

If you were able to see Rachel on the Ash2Nash Tour or another event, you'll know what a treat you are in for.  If you've never met her, trust me, you need to go to this signing!

The event will take place on Wednesday, March 28, 2012.  I haven't been able to locate the time of the event, so keep your eyes on the Parnassus website for more information.  Also, don't forget that Spell Bound will hit stores on March 13th!  I hope to see you all there!
