Theme Thursdays

Theme Thursday comes to us from Kavyen at Reading Between Pages. The name of the game is to select a snippet from whatever book you are reading that corresponds with the week's theme. Be sure to name the author and title of your book. Then, leave a link to your post at the official Theme Thursday post. Easy peasy.

This week's theme is: FEMALE PERSON (description of a woman/girl)

Lend's face shimmered and he shrank a few inches. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. She had short, light blond hair, a pretty face, and a similar build to me, maybe a few years older. She also had eyes such a pale gray that Lend couldn't get them right.

The warmth from his body spread into her, warming her in a way that was strikingly similar to how the sun did. She smiled and snuggled a little closer.

This week's theme is: WEATHER

Tessa shivered. The wind off the sea was chilly. All of Nate's letters had claimed that London was beautiful, the sun shining every day. Well, Tessa thought, hopefully the weather here was better than it was here, because she had no warm clothes with her, nothing more substantial than a woolen shawl that had belonged to Aunt Harriet, and a pair of thin gloves.

This week's theme is: EMOTION

"Ash," I murmured, which made him flinch, bracing himself. My heart pounded, but I ignored my doubts and hurried on. "I... will..." Closing my eyes, I took a deep breath and whispered, "Will you be my knight?"

He spun, eyes widening for the briefest of moments. For a few heartbeats, he stared at me, surprise and disbelief written across his face. I gazed back, wondering if it had been a mistake to ask, if I had only bound him further and he would resent being forced into another contract.

This week's theme is: BEAUTY

"I don't think I would've give the girls a second thought, except that at the edge of my vision I saw one of them sweep up her dark blonde hair and twist it into a long ponytail. The action itself was insignificant, but the movement sent a gasp of scent into the air. I recognized that smell. I knew immediately." ~ from Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater (p. 8-9)

This week's theme is: ANIMALS

"Images cluttered the page--intricate Celtic patterns, eyes peering from behind thorny vines, grotesque bodies with wicked smiles, animals too unreal to look at for long, symbols her eyes darted away from as soon as she glanced at them." ~ from Ink Exchange by Melissa Marr (p. 22)

"That night, I dreamed. In my dream, my house was dark and still, the living room cloaked in shadow." ~ from The Iron King by Julie Kagawa

Enquiring Minds Want to Know is a weekly meme from Dollycas's Thoughts. The object of the meme is to answer the three questions posted each week and then link back to your post on the official Enquiring Minds post linked above from the graphic. Doing so allows bloggers to get to know each other.

This week's questions are:

1. Have you ever traveled outside of the United States? Actually, yes, I have. Two years ago my husband accepted a job teaching English in South Korea. Our baby and I packed up and went with him for what turned out to be a very dramatic three months that I am just now starting to recover from. I also spent a very weary 5 hours in the Narita airport in Japan on our way back to the U.S.

2. If you could pack up today on a vacation and money was no issue where would you go? I would definitely have to go to Ireland. I've long been fascinated with the landscapes, the stories, you name it. My grandfather still had distant family there, though he didn't seem to care to talk about it. The information died with him and we still don't know where his side of the family came from, nor just how close or how distant they were/are.

3. Is there somewhere in the United States that you have never been that you would like to visit? I would love to see the Pacific Northwest. My husband has hiked the national parks there and really liked them. I have only seen pictures, but would love the chance to see them for myself.
