I picked 5 of the questions posed by Armchair BEA to answer as part of my introduction. Since I'm running out of things to say at this point, why don't we get this show on the road?
- Please tell us a little bit about yourself: Who are you? How long have you been blogging? Why did you get into blogging? My name is Marla and, in a nutshell, I'm a reader, writer, and all-around bibliophile from Tennessee. I've been blogging under this blog for 1 year and 3 months, although I've been blogging in other capacities since 2002. I opened this blog because, at the time, I didn't have many people to discuss books with in real life. Thanks to my blog, however, that problem has been rectified. I have since met some awesome bloggers and am even co-admin of the Ruta Sepetys Official Fan Website alongside Hannah from The Book Vortex. The site is still in its infancy, but we hope to turn it into a great online gathering point for other fans.
- What is your favorite feature on your blog (i.e. author interviews, memes, something specific to your blog)? My favorite feature is my new monthly author spotlight called Owl's Eye View. In fact, my second one just posted today! The gist is that every month I feature an author who has a book hitting the shelves. So far, I've had the pleasure of interviewing Kathleen Peacock and Myra McEntire!
- If you could eat dinner with any author or character, who would it be and why? If I could have dinner with any author, I would choose Ruta Sepetys. She is one of my favorite authors and just so happens to be semi-local to me when she's not on tour. I've met her twice now and have found her to be a kind, funny person. It would be a real treat to have dinner and talk books with her.
- Have your reading tastes changed since you started blogging? How? They certainly have! I was re-introduced to YA last year and, unaware of all of the fantastic things coming out in that category, fell head over heels for some wonderful titles and characters. Now, I can't get enough of it and have discovered some wonderful genres I had never tried before as a result (i.e. steampunk and dystopia).
- What are you currently reading, or what is your favorite book you have read so far in 2012? I am currently reading Call of the Sea by Rebecca Hart, which will be released on June 21, 2012, and for which I am part of a blog tour. I'm not the type to have one favorite anything, really, but I can name my top 5 favorite books so far this year! They are: The Gathering Storm by Robin Bridges; Incarnate by Jodi Meadows; Scarlet by A.C. Gaughen; Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers; and Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.
Considering how nice and funny she is, I would have to say Ruta Sepetys would be a great author to have dinner with. :) Also, I must really read all of your favorite books of the year so far (especially since they're on my TBR list). Great intro, Marla!
ReplyDeleteYay Myra McEntire! I love that she was your first spotlight. If I was going to start a fan club (which I'm NOT, because I don't have enough time for all my commitments as it is), it would probably be for her.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, our answers for several questions were similar! Great minds think alike?
Thanks for stopping by my Armchair BEA Intro post!
Hi Marla! I haven't read Ruta Sepetys's book yet, but it's on my TBR list and waiting on my shelf. Shame on me, because I hear it's a great book!
ReplyDeleteHappy ABEA!
Happy Armchair BEA intro Day! thanks for allowing me to get to know you a bit!
ReplyDeleteI have book blogging to thank for opening up the world of YA to me too! And how awesome that you now have 'real life' book loving friends!
ReplyDeleteGreat intro! I will definitely check out Shadow and Bone. New follower :) Check out my responses here
ReplyDeletehello Marla! ooh an author spotlight sounds fab! Myra McEntire and Kathleen Peacock sound like loads of fun. I can't wait to read Shadow and Bone, I hope it lives up to my expectations. so nice to meet you!
ReplyDeleteI didn't realize you were from Tennessee. Or, if I did, it didn't stick. Although, it could be that there are so many of us, I just don't remember who's from where, lol. Anyway, I have a sister who lives in Franklin. I've been there as well as to Nashville, but that's all my Tennessee experience. It's beautiful there, though! Love how green it is and all the trees.
ReplyDeleteGo you featuring an author every month, that's great. I will look up the books you rec! Stopping by to say hello from Armchair BEA.
ReplyDeleteWhat part of Tennessee are you from? (if that's too personal, ignore!) I'm from Western Kentucky, hence my asking! I always love to find bloggers from this area.
ReplyDeleteIncarnate was so good! I've not read many of the others you mentioned yet. The one I'm most excited about is Scarlet! It sounds so good.
Thanks for stopping by mine!
I love where YA has gone over the last few years. Glad you found it.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating!

Wow, have I seen Owl's Eye View? I'm not sure if I recall it, but it sounds like a fantastic feature! I'll have to keep an eye out for your posts. That's cool you got to interview such awesome authors for it too! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Marla! It's a pleasure to get to know more about you. :)
I have to agree - I think a lot of the reason I started my blog was because I didn't have a lot of friends to discuss books with. If my friends read, they just read what's popular and not much else. Wonderful post!
ReplyDeleteIt was so nice to meet you :) Armchair BEA @ the Brunette Librarian
I have the feeling that's the case for a lot of us. It's a good thing there is such a wide-spread book blogging community! :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by!
The second post just went up on Monday! It was an interview with Myra McEntire, who is a local-ish author. :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! I'm sorry I didn't get to make the rounds yesterday. It was my first day back to class for the summer session. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi, Amanda! I'm originally from east TN, but am now living in central. It's quite the drive from where you are. :-)
ReplyDeleteThanks! I just hope I can pull off July. I've got to find an author that wants to be featured. :-)
ReplyDeleteYup! TN born and raised. I used to live about 45 minutes from Franklin! Small world. :-) The town I live in now definitely has the greenery in its favor. I like it here. :-)
ReplyDeleteHi, Elena! Thanks for stopping by. It's definitely a lot of fun. I've really been enjoying it. You should definitely get Shadow and Bone ASAP. It's phenomenal! :-)
ReplyDeleteHi, Rhonda! Thank you so much for stopping by. :-)
ReplyDeleteIt definitely is, plus Ruta is just a wonderful person. I've been helping a friend run the official fan site and I just love being able to do that. :-)
ReplyDeleteSecond, actually! :-D So much fun. :-) You can do what Hannah and I did and start a fan blog. We're running one for Ruta Sepetys. We haven't had it going for very long, but we enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteI definitely plan on hooking you up with some of them! I have an ARC here w/ your name on it. ;-)
ReplyDeleteI loved finding the YA genre again too. :) I read a lot more of it now.
