Waiting On Wednesday: May 18, 2011

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event from Jill at Breaking the Spine. To participate, simply share that book(s) you are eagerly awaiting the release of and report back to Breaking the Spine with the link to your post. Clicking the image above will take you straight to her post and link widget. (Special note: The nifty button above comes from Lindsay at The Violet Hour. Isn't it pretty?)

This week, I am waiting on Kady Cross's The Girl in the Steel Corset.

From Goodreads:

In 1897 England, sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne has no one…except the "thing" inside her.

When a young lord tries to take advantage of Finley, she fights back. And wins. But no normal Victorian girl has a darker side that makes her capable of knocking out a full-grown man with one punch….

Only Griffin King sees the magical darkness inside her that says she's special, says she's one of them. The orphaned duke takes her in from the gaslit streets against the wishes of his band of misfits: Emily, who has her own special abilities and an unrequited love for Sam, who is part robot; and Jasper, an American cowboy with a shadowy secret.

Griffin's investigating a criminal called The Machinist, the mastermind behind several recent crimes by automatons. Finley thinks she can help—and finally be a part of something, finally fit in.

But The Machinist wants to tear Griff's little company of strays apart, and it isn't long before trust is tested on all sides. At least Finley knows whose side she's on—even if it seems no one believes her.

I have become quite fond of steampunk as of late, and am looking forward to this offering. It looks to be action-packed and full of interesting things like automatons and a kick-ass heroine. Luckily, the wait for this book isn't a long one at this point. It will hit stores on May 24th and comes from Harlequin Teen. I know I'm going to do everything I can to get a copy of my own!

ETA: I thought it would be fun to add the book trailer to this post, so voila!

  3. I was able to read this one through NetGalley and I liked it. I look forward to hearing what you think about it. I am definitely more interested in steampunk now too especially after reading Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare and Gail Carriger's steampunk series for adults. Now I want to go back and read Leviathan. Great pick this week!
