Follow Friday: April 8, 2011

Follow Friday is hosted by Parajunkee and is a way for book bloggers to get to know each other better. To join in and make some friends, simply follow the directions listed by Parajunkee on her blog.

This week's question is:

DO YOU JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER?

I try not to, but I'll admit that I've done my fair share of judging. It works either way, though. Sometimes I'll pick up a book with a pretty cover only to find that it is horrible. There are also times that I have picked up a book with a less than stellar cover only to find that it is wonderful. I guess what I'm trying to say is that I try to keep an open mind, though I sometimes fail.

  1. Hopping through. Yeah - I think we all have judged by the cover - it's hard not to.

  2. Yes, I surely do judge a book by the cover. Not always but more often then not. I'm known for not reading synopsis so if your cover doesn't show me what I want to know or if someone doesn't recommend it... chances are I'm reading someone else's book.

  6. I've yet to find one person who says they don't judge. I think there is difference in how influential the cover is though.

  7. Hi Marla! New follower here. Would love for you to follow me. Nice to meet you.

For me, it is the cover and the title that tempt me to read the blurb. If the blurb reads great, I'll grab the book. I remember the first time I saw Harry Potter's book covers, I was like, O_o...not sure if I liked them. Love the inside but the covers weren't really to my taste.
    Happy Follow Friday!!!

  9. I too, try to keep an open mind.

But yes, I often judge books by their covers, and I'm so glad when my old favorites get much-needed makeovers.

I'm a new follower, and invite you to check out my sites and follow me as well.

  12. I've had similar experiences. I won't mention which books but I've read some really bad ones with nice covers and some really terrific ones with cheap and cheesy covers. Oy!

Happy Follow Friday! I'm a new follower. I hope you'll check out my blog too!

  13. It definitely does go both ways. There are bad books in pretty covers and beautiful books in horrible covers. A pretty cover may peak my interest enough to read the blurb or find out more, but it's not enough to make me buy or read a book.

  14. Hello! Thanks for visiting my blog Novel Addiction! It's nice to meet you, and I hope you're having a great weekend.

Can't wait to see more from you! And sorry I'm so late returning the follow - I need just a few more hours in the day. I'd pursue that line of thought, but I'm sure they'd add a few more WORK hours to the day too, blegh.
    Best!
