Reading At the Cafe For a Good Cause

This morning I grabbed my current read and headed out to our local bakery/cafe. Today is Purple Day, and the cafe is participating in the Great Purple Cupcake Project. All of the proceeds from the sale of their special purple cupcakes go to the Anita Kaufmann Foundation, whose purpose is to promote awareness of epilepsy.

Epilepsy has an ever-present effect upon our family. My husband has had epilepsy since birth. Because he has epilepsy, he has been excluded from certain career fields and has also been the target of prejudice. Even today, a vast number of people remain unaware as to all of the facts about epilepsy. Fear, misunderstanding, and miseducation continue to lead to the exclusion and (sometimes) persecution of those who suffer from epilepsy.

The two links posted above have a wealth of information regarding common misconceptions, the facts about epilepsy, first aid for epilepsy sufferers, and more. I hope you all will join me in observing Purple Day. Throw on a purple shirt and head out to to snag a purple cupcake. You can see if your local bakeries or cupcake shops are participating via the following link: The Great Purple Cupcake Project.

  2. It was really nice. It was a rainy Saturday, so it was nice to sit in the cafe with a big iced coffee, a cupcake, and a book. Being able to do something for the foundation just made it even better. :)
