Waiting On Wednesday & Whatcha Reading Wednesday: March 23, 2011

Waiting On Wednesday is a weekly event from Jill at Breaking the Spine. To participate, simply share that book(s) you are eagerly awaiting the release of and report back to Breaking the Spine with the link to your post. Clicking the image above will take you straight to her post and link widget.

Whatcha Reading Wednesdays come to us from Busy Moms Who Love to Read. All you have to do is post what you're currently reading or about to start and then leave a link on the Busy Moms Who Love to Read blog. This week, however, there is a slightly different instruction:
There are lots of great titles releasing in the next few weeks - which one are you most looking forward to?

As you can see, both of today's memes are about the book you are eagerly awaiting. I will preface mine by saying that I love a good fairy tale or mythological re-telling. With that being said, my pick of the week is Meg Cabot's Abandon, which is based upon the Persephone myth and due to be released on April 26th.

From Goodreads:

"New from #1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot, a dark, fantastical story about this world . . . and the underworld.

Though she tries returning to the life she knew before the accident, Pierce can't help but feel at once a part of this world, and apart from it. Yet she's never alone . . . because someone is always watching her. Escape from the realm of the dead is impossible when someone there wants you back.

But now she's moved to a new town. Maybe at her new school, she can start fresh. Maybe she can stop feeling so afraid.

Only she can't. Because even here, he finds her. That's how desperately he wants her back. She knows he's no guardian angel, and his dark world isn't exactly heaven, yet she can't stay away . . . especially since he always appears when she least expects it, but exactly when she needs him most.

But if she lets herself fall any further, she may just find herself back in the one place she most fears: the Underworld."
